Left of Black co-host Sasha PanaramĀ is joined in the studio by Kaneesha Parsard.
Parsard is a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago where she will begin as an Assistant Professor in 2020. She received her PhD in American studies and African American studies from Yale University in 2017. Her research examines the aftermath of slavery and Indian indentureship in the literature and visual culture of the English-speaking Caribbean. She is also interested in how the Atlantic and Indian Ocean worlds, more broadly, have long been connected through imperialism, labor, and trade. Gender and sexuality are key to these formations for Parsard. Her work has been published in small axe salon, Small Axe, and American Quarterly as well as in Indo-Caribbean Feminist Thought edited by Gabrielle Hosein and Lisa Outar.
