Have you ever played a game of Bid Whist before? Is it like playing spades or is there a significant difference?
Author Lamont Jones, a lawyer in the professional boxing field who also served as Executive Director of USA Boxing and General Counsel of USA Track & Field, has made it his mission to champion the game to mainstream culture. He also highlights the historical significance of the card game to the Pullman Porters, the Black men who worked in the sleeping cars of passenger trains from the 1860's to the late-1960's. Mr. Jones joins host Dr. Mark Anthony Neal to discuss his new book, "The Gist of Bid Whist: The Culturally Rich Card Game from Black America," published by Clyde Hill Publishing.
